BPM and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova to Sweden agree to adopt Swedish best practices

BPM PC Strand, the only manufacturer in Moldova of steel strand (PC strand) for prestressed concrete, held a working meeting today with Ms. Kajsa Johansson, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova to Sweden. The meeting focused on Moldovan-Swedish cooperation in the industrial, social, and green sectors.

The discussion covered several priority areas.

Green agenda and circular economy. The parties reviewed a Moldovan-Swedish pilot project for waste management and the recycling of metal waste into certified raw material with documented origin, as well as powering current and future production lines with renewable energy, supported by Swedish expertise.

Social responsibility and inclusion. The talks addressed dual education based on the Swedish apprenticeship model, in partnership with technical schools in Chișinău, the advancement of women in industry, the employment of Ukrainian refugees, and the adoption of Sweden's Vision Zero approach to workplace safety.

BPM-TRADE is among the major taxpayers of the Republic of Moldova. From 2023 through the first half of 2026, the company paid 141.5 million MDL into the state budget, of which 62 million MDL was VAT. Over the same period, it paid an additional 587.5 million MDL in VAT on imported goods.

In 2024, BPM-TRADE launched its own PC Strand production with an investment of 9 million euros, financed through the company's own funds and an EBRD loan. The launch created 45 new jobs. Output is exported entirely to the EU and the US and meets European and international quality standards. The company plans to increase capacity from 20,000 to 36,000 tonnes per year, investing a further 3 million euros in the expansion, which will add another 10 jobs in high-tech manufacturing.

BPM-TRADE also invests in the energy security of the Republic of Moldova. A 900 kW solar power plant worth 350,000 euros has already been installed on the roofs of its production and warehouse facilities. The company plans to invest a further 1.5 million euros in a 12 MWh energy storage system.

"Moldova's European path also means companies that produce, create jobs, and invest in line with European values. Cooperation with Sweden, a world leader in sustainability and inclusion, is a natural benchmark for us," said representatives of BPM.

Ms. Johansson accepted an invitation to visit the BPM PC Strand plant in Chișinău in October 2026, as part of her visit to the Republic of Moldova at the Government's invitation in her capacity as Honorary Consul. The visit will mark the launch of the joint best-practices programme.

The meeting was part of the Moldovan-Swedish economic dialogue in the context of the Republic of Moldova's European integration.
